The Indian commerce minister, Piyush Goyal expressed that Apple wants to manufacture 25% of its iPhones in India.

Piyush Goyal said, “Apple is already manufacturing about 5-7% of their iPhones in India and it is aiming to go up to 25% of their overall manufacturing in India.”

Apple is producing iPhones of older models in India since 2017. In 2022, Apple started assembling its latest model iPhone 14 in India. It was the first time the Apple manufactured its latest iPhone model in India almost very close to its launch.

Foxconn, who is the main assembler of Apple’s iPhones, is producing smartphones at its Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu.

JPMorgan analysts said in September that Apple can make 25% of all its iPhones in India by 2025.

Apple manufactures most of its iPhones currently in China but Covid-19 outbreak and protest of workers in China exposed the fragilities in China. Therefore Apple is looking to diversify its production centers. Apple CEO Tim Cook also sees India as a potential place for growth.
